my take on “Harry Potter”
I never liked the franchise from the very beginning. I honestly thought it was another Twilight, teen-fad, that would die once the books were done and the films finally hit the theaters. Yes, I’ll admit and say that the 1st one sucked and lead me to come to the above mentioned perception.
But watching Deathly Hollows part 1, I seen how much the characters grew and even how the movies are not the “kiddie” type that I once perceived them as. HP7.1 was dark and changed my perspective on the franchise. But of course, that can only come from different directors..3-4 if i’m not mistaken.
HP7.1…was AMAZING! It was EPIC and mind blowing. As a film goer, I never read the books and was lost right from the beginning..but with a little research on wikipedia..I “caught up” to everything that was going on. I couldn’t wait for Deathly Hollows 2 to come out and being a poser, who enjoys going to the theaters, I watched the midnight release and was amazed at the response this one film that brought closure to most child hood memories had. I’ve never seen a movie have 5-6 different midnight showtimes. MUST BE EPIC from my thinking.
After watching the finale..I left the theater WANTING MORE. Yes it brought closure to the entire story and franchise, but as a movie goer..you need to follow the epicness of HP7.1 with something that will break into the top 3 of THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME. But, one movie of a 7 part series can’t do that. I am amazed at the response that J.K Rowling has received upon writing the books and the response the movie franchise has gotten. But after lots of thought, HP7.2 was a good movie to close out the franchise; alone, by itself, it wasn’t THAT GREAT as most people hype it out to be.
One thing I do enjoy about the 10 years of the movie series is the real life growth of Daniel, Emma, Rupert and the other key actors that took the books to another level. Although, I say that very lightly considering I haven’t read a single HP book. I just LOVE that fact that for 10 years, these actors have “lived” with each other filming the 8 movies that will and have changed their lives as much as they have changed the Harry Potter fans all over the world. Highest grossing movie on a single night and hit billions of dollars dating back to the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone.
THAT’S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HARRY POTTER.
The story behind the story. Of course there was the Lord of The Rings franchise, currently Batman series with Christian Bale, and numerous other movie franchises. But nothing like Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, Daniel, Emma, Rupert, and etc. Do I regret not having read the books when I was younger or gotten into the movies when they were first released? Not really..but Hogwarts will always be there for us to return right? :)
